Arthur Lee Crain III
TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - The suspect in a string of Topeka armed robberies is behind bars.
Topeka Police arrested 27-year-old Arthur Lee Crain III following a traffic stop Monday night near SE 6th and Quincy. Police Chief Ron Miller says officers obtained information during the stop that led them to take him to the Law Enforcement Center for further questioning.
Right now, he's being held for last Friday's aggravated robbery at Highland Park Pharmacy, but police believe Crain is also connected to nine other robberies, including one at a Domino's Pizza two weeks ago, during which a female employee was sexually assaulted. Dollar General, Prize Package and a Taco Tico were among other locations hit during the string.
Miller says a task force was formed to focus on the holdups because it was clear they needed to find the suspect quickly. He said the sexual assault and trend toward more violence were cause for concern.
Miller says Crain was released from jail in January after serving time for a previous aggravated robbery.
