TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)-State corrections officials spoke out today about a U.S. Justice Department report describing a culture of sexual abuse at the Topeka Correctional Facility.
Corrections Secretary Ray Roberts and Warden Hope Cooper say the sexual misconduct and abuse described was the environment before they were hired to make a change in January of 2011.
They say the report does not reflect the current structure at T.C.F.
Warden Cooper says they've had only one misconduct incident reported since 2011, an incident of inmate on inmate abuse.
An annual monitoring was conducted by the U.S. Department of Justice this past February as well and found no problems within the prison.
