TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)-- Homes were evacuated overnight while the Topeka Police Department Bomb Squad investigated a suspicious device.
Somebody called the Topeka Police Department around 11 p.m. Sunday and reported a suspicious item found in the 2900 block of southeast Highland Court.
When authorities arrived they found a five gallon bucket a with a metal rod sticking out of it. The bucket was attached to a 12 volt battery.
TPD evacuated surrounding homes and called in the bomb squad.
The squad opened the bucket and found a black substance inside. They confirmed the substance was not a threat but could not identify exactly what it was, police told 13 News.
