Shawnee Co. Authorities Warn Of Mail Theft Spike

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - The Shawnee County Sheriff's Office is warning people to take precautions to prevent identity theft.

Authorities have seen an increase in the amount of mail theft being reported throughout the county and City of Topeka. Thieves are going through mail looking for checks, credit cards, bank statements, and anything else that may have personal identifying information on it.

Officials suggest people bring personal mail to the post office or hand deliver to the postman and do not let packages sit outside a residence when not home.
