Series Of Crimes Reported In Industrial Area

RILEY COUNTY, Kan. (WIBW) -- Riley County police are investigating a string of crimes at businesses located in an industrial area near the Manhattan Regional Airport.

Sometime between 8 PM on July 24th and 7 AM on July 25th, officials say a suspect or suspects stole a $40,000 Ford F550 dump truck from Tri City Fence Company on Murray Road by breaking into a fenced in area at the business.

An employee with the company reported the theft to police and the dump truck was later located through a GPS system and recovered.

Inside the dump truck, police say they found several stolen items from another vehicle that had been burglarized in the area. More than $1200 worth of items was taken from a car parked at Briggs Auto Direct on Skyway Drive, including a stereo, speakers, an amplifier, iPod and even a garage door opener.

Officials say around the same time frame, $11,000 worth of equipment was also taken from IES Industrial in the 1600 block of Recreation Drive, including six ground copper wire spools, an electric generator and a drill motor. Several other items were also damaged.

The incidents are believed to be related. No arrests have been made. The cases remain under investigation.
