Prelim Set For One Suspect, Extradition Pursued For 2 Others In Alcala Murder

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - The Shawnee County District Attorney's Office hopes to complete paperwork Friday or Monday that will get the ball rolling on bringing two murder suspects back to Topeka.

The DA's office is completing a request for the Governor's office to issue a warrant to extradite Gabino Alcala and Benjamin Anaya. They're being held in El Paso, Texas for murder and conspiracy in the death of 34-year-old Ashley Alcala.

Ashley Alcala was found unresponsive in her home Oct. 18. She died later at a Topeka hospital.

Gabino is the brother of the victim's husband, Manuel Alcala, who's also charged in the case. Manuel was in court Thursday afternoon, where the judge set his preliminary hearing for November 27th.

His mother, Manuela Alcala, is also charged. She was returned from
Texas earlier this week.
