TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- The suspect in Topeka's second homicide of the year made his first appearance in court Monday.
Saturday's homicide comes just 7 days after the Capital City's first of the year. While the victim's do not have any family relation, Topeka Police have not ruled out a connection in the killings.
Topeka Police responded to reports of a triple shooting at Freedom Valley Park on Saturday around 4 p.m.
Three men were taken by personal vehicle to a local hospital, where 20 year old Topekan Germaul Rayton died.
Early Sunday morning after spotting a possible suspects vehicle in Lawrence, a joint operation between Lawrence and Topeka Police near the 600 block of West 27th St. lead to the arrest of 24 year old Jourdan Hunt.
Hunt was booked into Shawnee County Jail and is being held on $1,000,000 bond for first degree murder as well as aggravated battery for wounding the two other men.
Gerrmaul Rayton was awaiting sentencing on June 26 for a number of criminal charges including burglary.
Jourdan Hunt has served at least two years in county jail for three separate cases after violating his probation. He is due back in court September 10th.
Police believe the parties involved in both Topeka homicides have gang affiliations.
