TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- Topeka Police say a driver in Topeka early Sunday made it clear they were pulling over for a routine traffic stop.
TPD LT Scott Gilchrist wrote in a Sunday morning release that three people were in custody following a pursuit and aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.
LT Gilchrist said at 12:29 a.m., a Topeka Police Officer attempted to stop a green, 2000 Ford Explorer at SE 6th Avenue and SE Lafayette Street for a stop sign violation. Gilchrist says the driver pulled the vehicle into an alley and rammed the police car, then took off down 6th Avenue.
After a short pursuit, the vehicle was stopped in the 600 block of SE Lawrence Street. The driver of the Explorer and two passengers were taken into custody. Gilchrist said no one was injured.
Detectives were conducting follow up interviews early Sunday. The names of those arrested were not yet released.
