TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Family members confirm to 13 News that a body found in Douglas County Thursday is that of a Topeka convenience store owner.
His mother, Jane, said 39-year old Corey Brown hadn't been heard from since Tuesday afternoon.
Brown is a partner in the Hudson Crossing Shopping Center. The convenience store in the center at SE 15th and Adamas is where two clerks were shot during a holdup attempt in November and an employee of the neighboring liquor store was killed in a Christmas Eve holdup.
Thursday morning, authorities confirmed a body had been discovered on 2190 Road in Douglas County, south of the Kansas River, just east of the Shawnee County line. Topeka Police investigators were among those who responded to the scene.
Authorities would not confirm the identify of the body to 13 News, but Jane Brown says police informed them Thursday afternoon that the body was her son's. She says police did not provide any further details so as not to interfere with their investigation.
Jane Brown says it is a difficult time, but the family is glad Brown's body was found so they can find out what happened and move forward.
Brown is survived by three children, daughters ages 14 and 12 and a son who is nine years old.
