MANHATTAN, Kan. (WIBW) -- Riley County police say a Manhattan woman was robbed and shoved to the ground by a man she thought was just trying to get past her on the sidewalk.
The mugging happened Thursday, September 27, 2012 at 7:50 PM in the 1000 block of Laramie Street.
The victim, 38-year-old Victoria Johnson, was walking down the street when she noticed a man approaching her on the sidewalk. She moved aside to let him go by and as he did, police say he grabbed Johnson's purse, pushed her to the ground and ran off.
Johnson was left with several abrasions but was not seriously injured. Her purse contained miscellaneous personal items and $175 cash.
Johnson could not provide a detailed description of the suspect but told police he was wearing a dark blue hooded sweatshirt, dark pants and white shoes.
The incident is being investigated as a strong armed robbery.
