Manhattan Man Arrested After ER Incident

MANHATTAN, Kan. (WIBW) -- Riley County police say a patient in the emergency room at a Manhattan hospital caused $11,000 worth of damage when he lashed out in a room at the facility.

Benjamin Kempthorne, 37, of Manhattan, was arrested for criminal damage to property on Wednesday morning at Mercy Regional Health Center on College Avenue.

According to officials, Kempthorne was “angry” and “out of control” when he damaged dry wall and a reinforced window.

Police could not say what he why he was at the ER or what caused him to act in such a way.

On Thursday morning, he remained confined in the Riley County Jail on $1,500 bond.
