TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - A man arrested in the parking lot of the Topeka Hooters restaurant following a shooting learned his fate Friday.

Michael Whitfield was sentenced Friday to just over 11 years in state corrections followed by two years of post supervision.

Whitfield pleaded no contest in July to a reduced charge of attempted voluntary manslaughter following a January shooting at an apartment complex near 13th and S. Topeka Boulevard.

About an hour after the shooting, Whitfield and another man, Taron Hugguns, were involved in a police chase on I-70.

The two ran from the vehicle and were later arrested in the restaurant parking lot.

Charges against Huggins were dismissed and he was indicted by a federal grand jury in March for unlawful possession of a firearm after a felony conviction. Sentencing is set for November 4th. He faces at least 15 years.
