Man Accused Of Stealing Items From Business, Selling For Scrap

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - A Topeka man is behind bars, accused of stealing material from a local company and trying to sell it for scrap.

25-year-old Robert Nesbitt, Jr. is being held on charges including felony theft, possession of stolen property and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The Shawnee County Sheriff's Office says a deputy stopped Nesbitt's vehicle Tuesday morning near the Kwik Shop at 746 NE Wabash, in the Oakland area. The deputy recognized the car as matching the description of a suspicious vehicle that had recently left Bailey Recycling and Scrap Metal, 4124 NE Seward Ave.

Deputies say the company contacted them when Nesbitt showed up a short time earlier, trying to sell material reported stolen from Schmidtlein Excavating as scrap.

Schmidtlein, 204 NE Rice Rd., had reported a theft and criminal damage to property earlier in the morning.
