TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - The lawyers for a suspect in a brutal beating and burning in Topeka, have been allowed to withdraw from the case.
Judge Mark Braun granted permission to James Brun and Tobi Bitner to withdraw from representing 39-year-old Monroe Eugene Lockhart III.
Judge Braun cited a rule requiring withdrawal based on the existence of an undisclosed conflict.
The jury trial was not continued, but a new attorney will be appointed to the case and they will have the opportunity to file a motion to continue.
The trial is still scheduled to begin on October 22.
