LAWRENCE, Kan. (WIBW) - A convicted sex offender who escaped while being transported through Douglas County was captured Tuesday afternoon.
22-year-old Deon Routt was among prisoners a private security company from Topeka was taking from Virginia to Colorado. They stopped around 5:30 pm Monday at 23rd and Louisiana in Lawrence to check on a prisoner and Routt ran.
He was convicted last year of sexually assaulting a child in Colorado.
At about 3 pm Tuesday, Lawrence Police say they spotted Routt near 12th and Indiana. After a brief chase, officers arrested him near 11th and Mississippi.
Routt was treated for minor injuries sustained during the pursuit and arrest, then booked into the Douglas County Jail.
