UPDATE: Wednesday, July 31, 2013

Two Sedgwick County sheriff's deputies who were arrested Tuesday have officially been charged in district court.

Yesterday, Deputies Brenton Johnson and David Spears were taken into custody following a two-week investigation.

This morning, both made their first appearance in district court and were each charged with two felony counts of making false information. Johnson, 39, was also charged with a misdemeanor count of official misconduct.

Both work in the county's transportation department, transferring inmates between jails. Johnson has been with the department for 10 years. Fifty-year-old Spears has been a deputy for 19 years.

Both men are free on a $25,000 bond and are on administrative leave from the sheriff's office without pay. They're scheduled to be back in court for a preliminary hearing on August 14.

(KAKE)-- The Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office says two deputies will be charged with providing false information.

During a press conference, Sheriff Jeff Easter says inconsistencies in paperwork lead to an investigation that began back on July 11. Both deputies will be charged with 2 counts of providing false information. One of the deputies will also be charged with official misconduct.

"If you're not going to be accountable we will hold you responsible." says Easter.

The two deputies were partners who worked in the transportation department, transferring inmates between jails. Their names have not been released.

Sheriff Easter says they will be booked into jail Tuesday.
