COUNCIL GROVE, Kan. (WIBW)__Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt is making the rounds across the state providing the tools to keep consumers safe from identity theft.
The state of Kansas sees around 7,000 consumer fraud complaints per year.
From online purchases to door to door sales, crooks will use any way possible to get into your pocket book. Including a current scam using information from your family members' facebook accounts.
State Attorney General Schmidt says, "These con-artists are going online and onto social media web sites. They know the family pets name and all the current events from the grandchild's account and they do a great job of impersonating and asking for money.
Schmidt also says that it is important for identity theft victims to act immediately and inform others to be aware...you can report incidents like suspicious calls or emails by calling 1-8-7-7 i-d-theft.
