JUNCTION CITY, Kan. (WIBW) -- Junction City police officials say unfit living conditions led to the arrest of a local couple and their children to be taken into protective custody.

Police reports indicate that an officer with the Junction City Police Department met with the Kansas Department for Children and Families Monday afternoon for a report of possible child neglect or abuse.

As a result, Karen Hallman, 27, and Steven Saletzki, 32, of Junction City, were arrested for Aggravated Child Endangerment.

Two children were taken into custody as "children in need of care," according to reports. Their ages were not listed.

Junction City Police Chief Tim Brown says it is a “case where the conditions of the home where such that they were not safe for a child to be living in, including no water in the home for some time.”

No other details were released.
