TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - A burned out car and a possible $50,000 money transfer were among items discussed during a hearing for Monroe Lockhart today.

CJ Online reports the items surfaced as Judge Mark Braun worked to determine whether Lockhart is financially eligible to have a court appointed attorney.

Assistant District Attorney Todd Hiatt said the office received information that Lockhart may have received a $50,000money transfer from John Brown, the father of Corey Brown.

The Browns developed a convenience store which Lockhart managed, Corey Brown was found dead in January in rural Douglas County.

Lockhart said his car was stolen and found burning days before Brown's body was discovered.

Lockhart will face a trial on October 22 in an assault case unrelated to Brown's death.
