TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - An investigation into missing money at an area school has been turned over to the District Attorney's office.

Campus police at Avondale West Elementary School say officials noticed several thousand dollars went missing from the school's PTO account on Friday.

USD 501 Director of School Safety Ron Brown says the two suspects, who remain unnamed, were not employed by the district but were associated with the PTO.

He says the money was being saved for an upcoming school carnival and that PTO members are now working to find money to keep the carnival for the children.

The two suspects have not yet been arrested.
