INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (FOX59/CNN) – Indiana State Police are putting out a warning to parents after troopers found candy laced with drugs. Police said the candy was laced with THC, a chemical compound found in marijuana that gives users a high. They are concerned because the candy looks just like normal suckers, hard-rock candies, gummy bears and gummy worms.
“Unfortunately it’s something kind of hard to spot, hard to see,” said Sgt. Rich Myers with Indiana State Police.
State Police confirm troopers have found this drug laced candy in the Southwest part of the state. Investigators with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department say they have also seen this type of candy. IMPD reported a handful of cases about a year ago.
Police say the THC level found in some of these candies is typically much greater than the levels found in a joint of marijuana.
“The concern is, is that people will be consuming it who are unaware of that content and will be surprised and not be prepared for the impact of the THC on their system,” said Nancy Beals, a Project Coordinator with Drug Free Marion County.
