FT. LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) Two people were hurt in an early morning home invasion robbery in Ft. Lauderdale.
Police say two men broke into a residence in on SW 6th Street at 7th Avenue in the Tarpon River neighborhood around 6:30 a.m., ransacked the home and terrorized the couple inside.
Neighbors say the masked men got in through a first floor window.
The couple’s neighbors, Charles and Judith Walton, who are also their landlords, said Luis Colon and Elyse Ehlers came to their door asking for help after being held hostage for nearly an hour. Colon, who was bleeding, said he had been pistol whipped during the robbery.
“Said they came in, tied them up and pistol whipped them, and put a thing over his head like a pillow slip,” said Judith Walton who helped call police. “He thought they was gonna smother to death.”
Charles Walton said Ehlers was also hurt “I don’t know if she was pistol whipped or slapped or punched in the face or head,” he said. “She was crying hysterically, we had to calm her down,” he added.
Police say the couple struggled with the intruders before they were finally tied up.
The couple said the two masked men stole their televisions, laptops, cell phones, along with other valuables, and drove off in their four door white Lexus – license tag number BLM V77, with a silver frame that says “Kansas State University Alumni.”
Surveillance video taken about the time of the attack shows an SUV circling the area starting about 5:18 in the morning. Then about 6:20 in the morning, the video shows a man carrying something. Police want to know whether this video is related to the attack.
Colon played for KSU from 2006 to 2010, starting in 76 games during his career.
