Documents Released In Leftwich Juvenile Case

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Shawnee County District Court officials released documents related to a juvenile conviction of the man now charged in a fatal hit and run.

20-year old Dustin Leftwich faces charges including first degree murder and kidnapping for the May 25th death of 18-year old Brenna Morgart.

Court documents show Leftwich was arrested for the Morgart death when he had 10 days left on his probation for a juvenile sexual assault conviction.

Court records show the alleged incident happened in June 2009. Leftwich, who was 17 at the time, was accused of "engaging in lewd fondling or touching of a child under the age of 14."

In March of 2010, he pleaded guilty to aggravated indecent liberties with a child. In June 2010, Judge Joseph Johnson gave Leftwich a suspended sentence of two years and placed him on juvenile intensive supervised probation until June 3, 2012.

Leftwich was ordered to register locally as a sex offender, but, since he was a juvenile, his information was not ordered to be public.

Leftwich remains jailed on $1 million bond and has an August 27th preliminary hearing on the current charges.
