TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)-- Authorities continued searching the water Wednesday for potential pieces of evidence at the bottom of Lake Shawnee.

The Douglas County Search and Rescue Team was called in Monday to assist the Topeka Police Department in an evidence search and recovery operation connected to a 2012 case.

Topeka Police told 13 News Monday that the evidence recovered may help build the 2012 case involving Monroe Lockhart, and the murder of Corey Brown. Charges in that case were filed against Lockhart Friday.

A car was among items found by divers Wednesday, though police tell 13 News the vehicle is not related to the Corey Brown homicide case. The car was identified as a Honda Accord.

Shawnee County District Attorney Chad Taylor was at Lake Shawnee Wednesday speaking with divers on scene.

Scuba divers could be seen Monday morning pulling multiple orange colored bags from the lake. Among items recovered, several lawn chairs and a toy machine gun.
