TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - The Shawnee County District Attorney's office filed formal charges Friday against a suspect in one of two Tuesday homicides.
22-year-old Jesus-Daniel Valadez-Soto was charged with one count of felony first degree murder.
Valadez-Soto was arrested Wednesday. He's accused in Tuesday's shooting death of 75-year-old Hugo Jimenez, Sr. A witness heard shots, then officers found Jimenez dead outside the bus business he owned at SE 2nd and Quincy, which is near the Law Enforcement Center.
Valadez-Soto had his bond set at $1 million in the murder case. He's also on a non-bondable immigration hold.
Topeka Police continue looking for suspects in a shooting death that happened less than 90 minutes before Jimenez' death. 22-year-old Ahmad Mondaine was found inside a car in the parking lot of the Camelot Village Apartments near SW 10th and Fairlawn. Authorities say evidence indicates Mondaine may actually have been shot at a different location.
Police have said his killing was not random. They also do not believe it is related to the Jimenez shooting.
Anyone with information on either case can contact Crime Stoppers anonymously at 785-234-0007.
