MANHATTAN, Kan. (WIBW) -- Riley County police are investigating an attempted robbery after a couple was approached by a man with a gun on a Manhattan street over the weekend.

On Saturday, September 8, 2012 at 2:15 AM, officials say 22-year-old Logan Kirk and 25-year-old Katherine Wartell, a reporter for the Manhattan Mercury newspaper, were walking in the area of North 11th Street and Pomeroy Street when a black male wearing baggy pants and a hooded sweatshirt came up to them, pointed a handgun at them and told them to empty their pockets.

Kirk informed the suspect that they didn't have any money and police say the armed man left without taking anything.

The victims were not injured. Police are investigating the incident. According to officials, there were no other reports of similar encounters in the area.
