WICHITA, Kan. (AP)-- The former city clerk of a tiny southeast Kansas community faces sentencing for embezzling almost $60,000 from the town and her church.

The hearing for Diana Cox, of Havana, is set for Wednesday before U.S. District Judge J. Thomas Marten in federal court in Wichita. Cox pleaded guilty in January to one count each of bank fraud and wire fraud.

Cox admitted stealing about $14,700 from the town of Havana, which has a population of just over 100. She also admitted stealing nearly $45,000 from Cross Point Baptist Church in Caney, where she served as treasurer.

Federal prosecutors are recommending a sentence at the low end of the guideline range.

Cox has agreed as part of her plea deal to pay restitution to the town and church.
