Carjacking Suspects Caught

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- Topeka Police arrested two people after catching them in a vehicle that was stolen Thursday night.

LT Scott Gilchrist says officers first responded to a carjacking call at 10:16 p.m. at 3723 SE Colorado. The victim told officers that two Hispanic males took a green, 1998 Chevy Cavalier at gunpoint.

The vehicle had a 30-day tag. It was spotted in the 2200 block of SW Brookfield with its lights off and two people still inside. Both suspects were taken into custody and LT Gilchrist says a handgun was recovered.

One of the suspects is a juvenile male. The other has been identified as Samuel J. Martinez, 21. Both were taken to the Law Enforcement Center for questioning, then booked into the Shawnee County Department of Corrections and Juvenile Department of Corrections.
