Seniors and those on Medicare or with a medical card are receiving phone calls wanting to update or send them a new card.
The BBB has issued several alerts on this scam, in the past year. We want consumers to be aware that these are NOT legitimate phone calls.
The phone calls are being received two different ways.
1. Caller is saying that they have a new medical card and they already have the consumer’s bank account number and want to use that for verification of the individual that they are speaking with.
2. The other is stating that they have a new Medicare Card to send them. Again this one also asked for a bank account number to verify their identity.
Medicare does not make phone calls regarding new cards.
