Topeka (WIBW) - A memorial service was held Wednesday night for a young man who was fatally shot on Saturday.

Dozens of people came together at Hillcrest Community Park as the sun set and darkness fell to remember 22-year old Forrest Dwayne Duke Sanders.

Authorities say Sanders was fatally shot early Saturday in a drive-by in the 200 block of Southeast Massachusetts.

Several of those who attended the vigil made a public plea to stop the violence. Antoine Williams noted that this is the second son Sanders' mother had to bury due to violence. Williams urged anyone with information to contact authorities, so Sanders' mother can have closure.

Yolanda Mitchell said the community must work together to stop the violence.

"Babies dying is nonsense," she said.

Anyone with information on Sanders' death can call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 785-234-0007.
