TOPEKA, Kansas - At approximately 2:15 am, Monday morning, officers were called to the 400 blk of Tefft reference a break-in in progress to a vehicle. The caller caught the suspect inside their vehicle, which was parked in the back parking lot of the apartment complex. The burglar fled the area and then the victim called police.
When officers arrived on scene, officers called for a K-9 Unit to track down the suspect. K-9 handler Ahlstedt and his K-9 partner Diego tracked the suspect to the 400 block of Alkire where the suspect was apprehended.
The suspect was identified as James L. Bowers, 22, of Topeka. Bowers was booked into DOC on charges of burglary, attempted theft, criminal damage and one misdemeanor Shawnee County warrant.
