OLATHE, Kan. (WIBW)_ An child pornography investigation in Australia led authorities halfway around the world to the Sunflower State.
Larry L. Howard, 41, was arrested on Thursday and charged with producing child pornography, according the U.S. Attorney Lanny Welch. Howard allegedly took pornographic photos of a 2 year-old girl, which he is accused of trading over the Internet.
If convicted, Howard faces a penalty of not less than 15 years and not more than 30 years in federal prison and a fine up to $250,000.
According to the criminal complaint, the investigation began in September of 2009, when the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children received a tip that a man in Australia uploaded child pornography onto his Flickr.com Web site.
The complaint cites the Australian Capital Territory Police as identifying the man as Troy White. Investigators claim that White had been producing child pornography and trading it online with users around the world.
Through White, Australian Federal Police discovered an American who went by the online alias Blyndman68 and consequentially notified U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Cyber Crimes investigators.
ICE investigators traced the alias to Olathe where they served a search warrant at Howard's home.
