Felony Suspect Flees Authorities, Causes Lockdown At Washburn

TOPEKA, Kansas - Police say on Tuesday at about 9:00 p.m., SNSO Fugitive Warrants Unit Deputies were at a residence in the 1500 block of SW Washburn Ave. attempting to serve a felony arrest warrant on Trevar J. Lowery, b-m, 07-31-1984.

While Deputies were inside the residence speaking with the tenant, they say Lowery approached the residence on foot. A Deputy standing outside the residence noticed Lowery running away from the residence and initiated a foot pursuit.

Lowery was seen running on the Washburn University Campus possibly in to, or near, the Living Learning Center. As standard protocol, WUPD "locked down" the Living Learning Center. Washburn said students were asked to stay in their rooms during the search, which lasted about 30 minutes.

The LLC was searched by WUPD, TPD and SNSO assisted. Lowery was not located and once the LLC was searched, it was re-opened.

SNSO was assisted by TPD and WUPD during this incident. The TPD helicopter, one TPD K-9 and one SNSO K-9 were used, as well.
