(WIBW) - A former Lawrence police officer pleaded guilty to 14 counts of wire fraud.
U.S. Attorney Lanny Welch announced the plea from 32-year old Robert Ryan Sayler Tuesday.
Sayler was indicted June 16, 2009. According to the indictment, Sayler purchased video games from Target stores from May thru December of 2007. The indictment says Sayler removed the individual video game discs from the original packaging, returned the empty boxes to Target stores for complete refunds, then sold the stolen video games on eBay.
Prosecutors say Sayler sold multiple copies several games on eBay at prices ranging from $30 to $46 each.
Sayler faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine on each count when he's sentenced Nov. 2.
