TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) _ A Kansas drug trafficker will spend the next 18 years in federal prison for distributing crack cocaine within 1,000 feet of Topeka High School.
Federal officials say 47-year-old Cecil Brooks was arrested in January 2008 at a ``drug stash house'' that he ran in Kansas City, Kan. He came to the attention of police after an associate told them that Brooks had hit him in the head with a beer bottle and burned his back with a hot iron.
The associate told investigators that Brooks was angry because $1,000 worth of crack was missing.
Brooks pleaded guilty to the drug charge in February.
