Driver Acquitted In Death Of Hawker Picketer

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) _ A man whose pickup truck hit and killed a striking Hawker Beechcraft worker last year has been found not guilty of misdemeanor vehicular homicide.

A Sedgwick County jury deliberated about a half-hour Wednesday
before finding 50-year-old Barton Pasteka not guilty in the death
of 45-year-old Jeff Hart.

Attorneys acknowledged that Pasteka's truck hit Hart on Aug. 18 at the Hawker Beechcraft aircraft plant during a labor strike.

His lawyer argued that Hart's death was a tragic accident. Four witnesses testified that Hart walked in front of Pasteka's truck, in part because it was dark at the time.
