The first instance happened around 3:45 a.m. on Sunday. A resident in the area of 45th and Gage left a garage door open so the family cat could enter and leave the home freely. Burglars took advantage of the open door and used it to enter the residence.
Items were taken from the home including the family car. The vehicle was recovered just after midnight Monday morning.
Another home was victim to open garage door burglar entry in Southwest Topeka. Burglars entered a home near 15th and Chelsea just after 5:00 a.m. Monday morning. Multiple items were stolen including an automobile. That vehicle was recovered a short time later at a local motel.
Police are encouraging residents to close garage doors and lock interior garage entry doors.
