Sedgwick County jurors have convicted 22-year-old Carlos
Chavez-Aguilar of second-degree unintentional murder and voluntary
manslaughter in the deaths of 22-year-old Juan Martinez and
54-year-old Marilyn Arreola.
He also was convicted of aggravated battery in the injury of a
His lawyer, Brad Sylvester, said he plans to ask for a new trial
because gang testimony was allowed.
Police said the truck crashed into the victims after gang members started a fight around 2 a.m. on Aug. 23.
The man accused of driving the truck, 20-year-old Rene Chavez-Aguilar, faces trial April 27.
