Overland Park Woman Guilty of Assaulting Officer

OLATHE, Kan. (AP) _ A suburban Kansas City woman has been convicted of assaulting an Olathe police officer before she was shot and wounded.

The Kansas City Star is reporting that Johnson County jurors returned the guilty verdict Friday in the third trial of 27-year-old Kimberly Hudson of Overland Park. Two previous juries could not reach a verdict in the case.

Two police officers said the April 2007 shooting happened after Hudson walked toward one of them with a butcher knife. Hudson says she never go off her bed and was no threat to police.

Hudson has filed a federal lawsuit over the shooting that left her with a fractured wrist and a bullet wound through her torso. Her lawsuit names the two officers, the police chief and the city of Olathe. It seeks unspecified damages.
