Dad, Two Kids On Trial for Girl's Beating

HUTCHINSON, Kan. (AP) _ A man and his two 19-year-old children are on trial in the vicious beating and kidnapping of a teenage girl in Hutchinson.

Testimony began Wednesday in the trial of 48-year-old Javier Jaquez, his son, Marcos Jaquez, and daughter Gabriela Jaquez, all of Hutchinson. The three are charged with aggravated kidnapping and aggravated battery.

The charges stem from a Dec. 5, 2007, altercation involving Marisol Reyes behind her friend's house. Gabriela Jaquez faces an additional charge of aggravated battery, and Marcos Jaquez faces a charge of criminal damage.

Prosecutors say the family followed Reyes into the alley behind her friend's house after school that day and attacked her. Gabriela's attorney says Reyes was the attacker, and Marcos' lawyer says Marcos was at home in McPherson at the time.
