Burglary Attempt Leads to Chase Through Lawrence

Police in Lawrence have arrested a woman following a chase which began just past 11:15 am Tuesday after an attempted burglary in the 3100 block of Tomahawk Rd., near the Lawrence Country Club.

A Lawrence police officer was taken to a Kansas City hospital after being struck while outside of his vehicle. He is in stable condition.

After attempting the robbery, the suspect took off west on Highway 40. Lawrence Police began pursuing the woman right away.

They were soon joined in the chase by the Kansas Highway Patrol and the Douglas county Sheriff's Office. Along the way abandoning her dark blue Jeep Cherokee and reportedly stealing a white sedan.

Authorities laid stop sticks at Douglas Co. Road 175 in order rto apprehend the woman, who rammed into a police car and went over the sticks. She continued past the intersection, but was eventually stopped and apprehended at 12:18 pm. It was around this time the officer was hit.

Police are continue to investigate the incident. The suspect has not been named, nor has the officer. Stay tuned to WIBW-TV and wibw.com for further updates.
