Man Arrested After Short Standoff in Topeka

Shawnee County Sheriff's Deputies arrested a man following a short stand-off at an apartment complex in Topeka Wednesday afternoon.

Authorities say the man fled from a house in the 2700 block of 93rd Street around 2:30 p.m. when the owner came home and found him burglarizing the home. She started following him in her vehicle and called the Sheriff's Department who took over the pursuit.

Deputies followed him to Oak Brook Apartments where they say he barricaded himself in the apartment of a family member. Eugene Rice surrendered a short time later.

Deputies say he was driving a van stolen from the 3800 block of Atwood. They found a TV stolen from the 93rd Street house in the van
