Topeka Police Question Teen in Toddler's Death

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) _ A teenager is in custody for questioning in the fatal shooting of a 3-year-old child in Topeka.

Police said the 15-year-old, Sylk White, was picked up at a Topeka motel Sunday night as a material witness in Friday's shooting of TreVonte Williams. The child died Saturday afternoon of a gunshot wound.

Family members said a revolver in the family's apartment accidentally discharged, and the bullet struck TreVonte Williams in the head. They said White, a man and a young girl were in the apartment with the boy when the shooting happened.

White was arrested on a Shawnee County warrant for aggravated robbery. He was interviewed about the shooting before being taken to the Juvenile Detention Center for the warrant.
