POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. (AP) Police in the southeast Missouri town of Poplar Bluff say the stabbing of a man is the result of a vendetta - the stabbing victim is accused of raping a relative of the suspect.
Police say 48-year-old Clement White was stabbed 10 to 12 times early Tuesday, but is expected to survive. The suspect, 39-year-old Steven Wayne Gowen, faces assault charges.
Police say Gowen had been told by a relative that she had been raped by White. White had been charged with rape on Friday. Police say that crime happened in March 2007.
Gowen was released from a treatment center on April 22nd and placed on probation on a criminal nonsupport charge. He was also placed on probation in January on a charge of manufacturing a controlled substance.
