TOPEKA - A long sentence was handed down Wednesday in the 2007 robbery of a woman in her home.
44-year old Ernest Taylor will serve more than 23 years on aggravated burglary and aggravated robbery charges.
Shawnee County District Attorney Robert Hecht said Taylor entered a home on Southwest Buchanan in Topeka by cutting a screen and unlocking a back door. Hecht says Taylor confronted a woman in her bedroom and threatened to shoot her before running off with numerous coins.
Authorities later found those coins in Taylor's possession.
Hecht asked for the maximum sentence on the robbery charge because Taylor had 3 prior robbery convictions, a prior burglary conviction, as well as a criminal threat conviction.
