INDEPENDENCE, Mo. (AP) - A suburban Kansas City teenager charged in the 2006 killing of his mother pleads guilty in a deal with prosecutors.
Taylor Marquez pleaded guilty in Jackson County Circuit Court Monday to second-degree murder, assault and two counts of armed criminal action.
Pamela Marquez was stabbed to death at their Grain Valley home on July 15, 2006. The teen's father, assistant U.S. attorney Joe Marquez, was assaulted in the attack.
The judge sentenced Marquez to life in prison for the murder charge and 15 years for each of the other three counts. All are to run concurrently.
Marquez's trial was scheduled to start Aug. 4.
Earlier this month 18-year-old Eddie George, Marquez's best friend, was sentenced to life in prison without parole in the woman's slaying.
