Truck Driver Sentenced for Drug Trafficking, Money Laundering

Kansas City, KS - A truck driver arrested for drug trafficking and money laundering will serve 46 months in federal prison.

Hector Contreras, 35, of El Paso, Texas pleaded guilty in April to one count of conspiracy to distribute and possession with intent to distribute 1,000 kilograms or more of marijuana, five kilograms or more of cocaine and one count of money laundering.

He was sentenced Tuesday, July 15.

He was arrested September 1, 2006 south of Olathe on I-35 when State Troopers pulled over his tractor-trailer and found over $448,000 in U.S. money wrapped in dryer sheets and plastic wrap.

Contreras was arrested as part of Operation Loadrunner, an investigation from April 2006 to August 2006 of a drug trafficking organization that was responsible for smuggling marijuana and cocaine from Mexico to Kansas, and smuggling cash from Kansas City to Mexico.
