The city of Holton is searching for a new police chief.

Holton City Manager Glenn Rodden says Chief David Lanning resigned from his position.

In a report published in the Topeka Capital Journal, Lanning was quoted as saying he was fired.

Rodden said he could not go into the details, calling it a personnel issue.

Lanning had been with the department since 1999.

Gale Gakle is serving as interim chief. He has been with the department 27 years. The city is advertising for a permanent replacement.
