Topeka Police believe it was an accidental shooting that sent Marcellus Howell Jr to a local hospital in critical condition early Wednesday.
Officers responded to an apartment at 715 SW Taylor just before 3 a.m. on reports that the 29 year-old had been shot in the abdomen. Arriving on the seen, emergency crews found the bullet had, in fact, gone through Howell's chest.
The victim knew the shooter, a 25 year-old Topeka man, according to police reports, which indicate officers believe the shooting was an accident. The shooter's name has not been released and no arrest has been made.
Detectives intend to forward the case to the Shawnee County District Attorney's Office once they have completed their investigation.
