Traffic Stop Leads to Drug Charges

An Iowa man is facing federal drug charges after a Kansas Highway Patrol trooper stopped him in Lyon County.

U.S. Attorney Eric Melgren says 37-year old Jose Monsivais-Castillo has been charged with possession with intent to distribute about 3-kilograms of cocaine. Monsivais-Castillo was stopped nearly a month ago for speeding in I-35 in western Emporia.

If convicted he faces up to 40-years in federal prison and a fine up to $2 million.
